Serrated or Set Tooth Bandsaw Blades: Which Best for You?

  • August 20, 2025

In the world of foam fabrication, packaging, and furniture manufacturing, choosing the right bandsaw blade can be critical to your operations

This month, we’re diving into two key blade types: Serrated Blades and Set Tooth Blades—and when to use each.

Serrated Blades

Serrated blades, are available in both V-Tooth and C-Tooth styles.

V-Tooth blades are the perfect choice when cutting soft to medium materials including PU foams and packaging materials. V-Tooth blades cut more aggressively than a knife edge blade. The most popular is the standard straight V-Toothed blade, in a 10 or 14 TPI. V-Tooth blades are also available with the more aggressive directional C-Tooth style which should be considered when cutting denser foams.

Whether you're cutting foam cushions or slitting buns, serrated blades are a great choice!

Set Tooth Blades

Set tooth blades are available V-Tooth, C-Tooth, and Hook Tooth styles.

However, with set tooth blades, the teeth are offset to the left and right to remove more material and create a wider kerf. They are available in a wide range of TPI’s and sizes. They are especially great for dense rigid materials. These blades are great for cutting PE foam, wood, cardboard, rubber, metal, and bone.

Whether you're cutting frames, bubble with cardboard cores, or custom packaging inserts, set tooth blades are a great choice!

Choosing the right blade will:

  • Improve cut consistency
  • Extend blade life
  • Reduce downtime
  • Minimize waste
